This is the half-centurion, John Francis Calder.

Having known Jeff (if one can, really) for nearly half his life, I am asked at this juncture to write something about him. I ask, should it be humorous, serious, informative, fictitious? Any of these would be just the same as the next.

I have seen him drunk, sober, sad, happy, frustrated, jubilant, intense, worn out, but never speechless. His brain is a library of useless and useful information, constantly on the lookout for new material (and his wardrobe in search of the obscure ascot or pair of discontinued Keds shoe).

Things have not always been rosy between us, but through them all, Jeff has remained a true friend, a compassionate listener, a tireless promoter, a great writer, and an inspiration.

Happy birthday you old fart.

Love always,
arb
